ESB Newsletter April 18, 2020

Dear colleagues,

First of all, I sincerely hope that you and your beloved ones are safe and healthy and that you have found a way to deal with the extraordinary situation the COVID-19 pandemic has put us all in.

Normally, this newsletter was supposed to update you about the progress of the organization of the 11th World Biomaterials Congress, to announce the excellent plenary and keynote speakers the local organizers have attracted and to say that we all look forward to welcoming you in Glasgow in May.

Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions and social distancing rules, the organizers were forced to take the difficult decision to postpone the congress to a later date. WBC2020 will now take place from 11-16 December 2020, and will, as originally planned, be held at the SEC in Glasgow, Scotland.

But there is also some good news! To bring together the biomaterials scientists around the globe, the WBC2020 organizers will soon be launching the Online WBC Community and Virtual Meetings platform. This is designed to provide a comprehensive digital space where all WBC registrants and biomaterials specialists can come together in online discussion forum to share, learn and engage with each other. The WBC online community will have the opportunity to join online special interest groups and gain access to a valued pool of e-resources. In addition to hot news, product development and calendars of the events of the different International Biomaterials Societies available on the platform, all online WBC registrants will be able to view and participate in a schedule of online interactive webinars, society symposia, sponsored satellite webinars and international guest lectures to take place in the months running up to the Congress.

All existing WBC registrants will be auto-enrolled into the WBC online community and will benefit from all of the features of the platform including sessions broadcast live from WBC20202during our online World Biomaterials 2020 Festival week. Additionally all registrants will enjoy access to the WBC online community for a period of two years as part of their 2020 registration fees.

So, let us stay virtually connected, until we meet again in person, hopefully in December 2020 in Glasgow!
